**Special Unique Collagen Blend contains bioavailable forms of following amino acids:
glycine, proline, hydroxyproline, glutamic acid, alanine, arginine, aspartic acid, lysine, seine, valine, leuche,
phenylaline, isoleucine, hydroxylysine, lyosine, methonine, histdine and cystine
These amino acids have been proven to be highly beneficial for joint health issues.
Chondroitin is a molecule that occurs naturally in the body. It is a major component of cartilage -- the tough, connective tissue that
cushions the joints. Chondroitin helps to keep cartilage healthy by absorbing fluid (particularly water) into the connective tissue. It may
also block enzymes that break down cartilage, and it provides the building blocks for the body to produce new cartilage.
Chondroitin sulfate is a sulfated glycosaminoglycan (GAG) composed of a chain of alternating sugars (N-acetylgalactosamine and glucuronic
acid). It is usually found attached to proteins as part of a proteoglycan. A chondroitin chain can have over 100 individual sugars, each of
which can be sulfated in variable positions and quantities. Understanding the functions of such diversity in chondroitin sulfate and related
glycosaminoglycans is a major goal of glycobiology. Chondroitin sulfate is an important structural component of cartilage and provides much
of its resistance to compression. Along with glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate has become a widely used dietary supplement
Not only does chondroitin provide structure and holds water and nutrients, but it allows other molecules to move through cartilage. This is
a very important property, as there is no blood supply to cartilage. As a result, joint support is greatly increased through supplementation.
Chondroitin and similar compounds are also exist in the bladder and lining of blood vessels. Here they help to prevent abnormal movement of
blood, urine, or components across the barrier of the vessel or bladder wall.
Mayo Clinic Research (Extracts)
The consensus of expert and industry opinions supports the use of chondroitin and its common partner agent, glucosamine, for improving symptoms
and stopping (or possibly reversing) the degenerative process of osteoarthritis.
Osteoarthritis uses based on scientific evidence
Multiple controlled clinical trials since the 1980s have examined the use of oral chondroitin in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee and
other locations (spine, hips, finger joints). Most of these studies have reported significant benefits in terms of symptoms (such as pain),
function (such as mobility), and reduced medication requirements (such as anti-inflammatories). However, most studies have been brief (six
month duration) with methodological weaknesses. Despite these weaknesses and potential for bias in the available results, the weight of
scientific evidence points to a beneficial effect when chondroitin is used for 6-24 months. Longer-term effects are not clear. Early studies
of chondroitin applied to the skin have also been conducted. Chondroitin is frequently used with glucosamine. Glucosamine has independently
been demonstrated to benefit patients with osteoarthritis (particularly of the knee).
Japanese researchers have found that chondroitin may play a role in determining the viscosity and elasticity of tissues and fluids. A recent
in vitro study done by scientists in Belgium found that chondroitin had potentially beneficial effects on human cartilage cells.
